Adventurous teenagers' trip into the unknown
Thursday 2nd of July 2009

Eighteen intrepid teenagers embarked on an adventure into the unknown when they were blindfolded, deposited in the East Hampshire countryside and told to find their way back.
The young people, aged between 12 and 19-years-old, were taking part in a ‘Parachute Drop' organised by the Liss District Woodcraft Folk designed to build skills in decision-making and co-operation.
The exercise, on 19 June, saw the young people driven blindfold to an unknown destination and challenged to find their way back home, using a combination of natural signs, sign-posts and road signs.

Equipped with a torch, some water, an energy bar and some raisins the young people were dropped at Passfield Mill Business Park and observed from a distance by experienced leaders, Pam Gruber and Jane Mackrell, as they weaved a ten-mile path back to the Triangle Centre in Liss via Conford, Liphook, Old Thorns Golf Club, Weavers Down and Langley, returning back just after 11pm.
One participant, Megan, said: "It was really hard towards the end but I'm so glad I did it and completed the challenge."
Group leader Pam Gruber added: "The good humour, co-operation and friendship exhibited by the group were outstanding in spite of tiredness and, no doubt, aching feet."
All of the young people who took part completed the exercise and received a certificate for taking part in the challenge.
