Alice Holt included in South Downs National Park

The government has today announced that Alice Holt Forest will be included within the South Downs National Park.

East Hampshire District Council supported the inclusion of Alice Holt when it was proposed by the government earlier this year.

Deputy Leader Councillor Patrick Burridge said: "I welcome this announcement very much. We argued in favour of the inclusion of Alice Holt because of its importance for recreation, as an area of natural and plantation woodland, and as an archaeological important site, with its Roman pottery kilns. The forest is an incredibly beautiful area, and very worthy of inclusion in the park."

At the same time, the government confirmed that the shadow national park authority will be set up by 1 April 2010 and assume its full responsibilities for planning development on 1 April 2011.

Councillor Burridge added: "We will continue to work closely with the new park authority's establishment team on the practical implications. We will be seeking to ensure that local residents are still able to access the planning process and that local representatives retain a voice."

Does this mean that Whitehill Bordon is also within the park? I only ask because it lies between Alice Holt forest and the Woolmer enclosure.
