Alton's play sites could receive £75,000 boost

Alton's children will be cheering if plans to use £75,000 to improve play sites are approved.

Alton Town Council has applied to East Hampshire District Council's Community Forum to use £75,253 of developer contributions for play area improvements.

The meeting, which will take place at 6.30pm on Tuesday 28 April, at Alton Maltings Centre, Maltings Close, Alton, GU34 1DT.

Also on the agenda will be a short presentation from the Alton and District Sports Council.

Mr Goodeve, Chairman of the Alton and District Sports Council, will talk about the club's work supporting local sporting groups.

Continuing the meeting's sporting theme Alton Tennis Club has applied to the council's Community Initiative Fund (CIF) for £8,000 towards the cost of new floodlights.

Ropley Village Hall Committee has applied to the CIF for £10,000 towards the cost of refurbishing the hall. Both CIF applications will be forwarded to Cabinet for the final decision.

Three applications have been made to the Community Projects Fund. Alton and District Swimming Club has applied for £354 to help install a public address system while Wey Valley Community Radio has asked for £2,000 towards the costs of establishing a local radio station.

Alton Initiatives Management Ltd has asked for £1,876 towards the ongoing costs of staging the Alton Spring Festival.

During the presentation there will be an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions.
