East Hampshire District Council Environmental Service has been recognised for the quality of its customer care.

The department has been given the Customer Service Excellence Award, a government accreditation which demands rigorous standards of excellence.

The assessor found the 50 staff in the team had a "deep understanding and a commitment to Customer Service Excellence".

David Parkinson, EHDC Deputy Leader, said: "It's a very tough award to achieve with very strict criteria. Exacting standards have to be met to satisfy the assessor.

"Customers are at the heart of what we do here so it is a very pleasing award to win."

The department deals with a number of services, including recycling and refuse, pollution,  streetcare, cemeteries and food safety.

Gill Kneller, Head of Environmental Services, said: "We are delighted to achieve this accreditation. Our customers are not just East Hampshire's tax payers but everyone that lives, visits or works in the district.

"The Environmental Services team is committed to providing good services and we always keep the customer in the forefront of our minds."
