Revolutionary heat-seeking cameras will be used to discover which houses in East Hampshire need better insulation.

East Hampshire District Council has teamed up with the Energy Saving Partnership to use the thermal imaging technology to identify houses which could benefit from cavity wall and loft insulation.

The unique, state-of-the-art HeatSeekers vehicle has begun patrolling the district and will continue through the winter. Operating at night, each vehicle has the ability to assess up to 1,000 properties an hour.

The thermal-imaging technology produces an image highlighting where heat is escaping from a property and identifies if it would benefit from further insulation.

Once the area has been imaged, a dedicated team of energy advisors will carry out free surveys, talking to local residents about how they can improve insulation and take action to reduce both their energy bills and carbon footprint.

Keith Hewitson, Director of the Energy Saving Partnership, said: "The HeatSeekers thermal imaging vehicle has already created quite a buzz in the sector and we are delighted to see it in action.

"Our energy advisors are keen to spread the word about the grant funding which is easily available to all homeowners, which significantly reduces the cost of insulation improvements.

"The technology has already helped improve energy efficiency in thousands of homes across the country. The HeatSeekers vehicle is one of the key front-line weapons in the battle against climate change and is already playing an integral role in the plans to make UK homes more energy efficient."

Cllr Elizabeth Cartwright, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: "Insulating your home properly makes both financial and environmental sense. This new technology creates a picture which shows up exactly where your property is leaking heat.

"East Hampshire District Council has many schemes to help people conserve their domestic energy usage and the HeatSeekers vehicles are a perfect partner for them."

In order to carry out the insulation generated from Heatseekers, the project has teamed up with Mark Group, the UK's largest insulation and energy efficiency installation company.

Some areas have very low gas prices. February is statistically the month with the highest heating bills of the year. he cold season is fast approaching and here are some green tips to can make you feel cozier than ever without being hard on the pocket! One of the biggest drains on your budget can be power bills, and the biggest expense on power usage is heating your home or cooling your home, and you lose a fair amount through heat loss or cold loss. As your home heats or cools, the air inside will be drawn to the air outside, as cool air seeks warm air and vice versa in a process called Heat Transfer – temperature seeks equilibrium (this is physics 101 stuff) and thus, the best way to conserve heat or cold is insulation. Keep windows well insulated, and also pay attention to attics and any and all vents, lest your bills send you running for payday loans.
